Isn't she wonderful?
(hint: the answer is YES)
Meet Priscilla, my new serger. She is a Brother 5234PRW. She was kind of a shock this Christmas. I had asked for a serger, but an entry-level one. My MIL shocked me with this one. Here she is with her little fabric catcher on. Though the manual tells me that "trim trap" is the right terminology.
And here she is with her fancy outfit (aka wide table assembly) on.
It is love. At first I was afraid. She's quite fancy. But I watched the video twice (and some change) and threaded her correctly the first time. Daniel is also in love and is constantly asking if he can watch me sew. He even sat through the video with me and helped me out.
I have serged the ends of a ridiculous number of scraps and I have finally undertaken a project. I'll let you know how it turns out.
woohooooo! can't wait to see what you make!
ReplyDeleteCongrats!! I got one for christmas too. It's my first serger ever. I have a question, when I opened the box there was white thread threaded throughout the machine and a swatch of purple fabric under the presser foot, was your packaged this way?
ReplyDeleteYes, it was. I think they test them before they send them out. I ended up cutting it out and rethreading the whole machine.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I couldn't find any info about that. Do you have a thread preference? Have you ever used the bargain cones at Joann's?
ReplyDeleteI bought the cheapies from Hobby Lobby, I assume they are similar to Joann's. I haven't had a problem! They only had black and white though, so I will be testing out Joann's soon.
ReplyDeleteThey are having a 50% off all thread and an extra 10% off ending tomorrow. Brings the thread to .90 cents a spool. But the lady at the sew and van made me so nervous about using cheap thread, being a newbie to sewing as well. Thanks for your help. Have a fabulous New Year. I'm putting your blog only favorites.
